Overview

Scrum and Agile are often considered synonymous, and there is good reason. Scrum embodies the simplest and most pure approach to managing project work at the team level and is employed by over half of all Agile practitioners across all industries. Consider the below statistics:
  • Today nearly 100% of IT organizations use Agile and many other industries are quickly following
  • The likelihood of being on a Scrum or Scrum-like project is quickly approaching 50/50 or better over time.

In this course we start by learning the key project management processes, roles, mechanics, and philosophies behind Scrum. This gives you the basic understanding you'll need in the Mastering Agile Professional Certificate program to learn principles at the heart of all Agile frameworks. This will provide the basis for understanding Agile in its purest form over four weeks exploring Why, Who, How, and finally What Scrum looks like applied in the real world.

Syllabus

  • Week 1: The first week starts with Why agile methods are used – based on case studies that prove its effectiveness and the history of getting to Scrum.
  • Week 2: The second week explores Who uses agile across industries, exploring the types of work management and how Scrum Agile fits into the world of work.
  • Week 3: The third week gets into the mechanics of Scrum and How Scrum is performed and executed. Here you’ll learn team formation, planning and retro games, and how to effectively manage work to meet Sprint objectives.
  • Week 4: The last week pivots to look at what Scrum looks like at Scale, and how it differs from other Agile frameworks in terms of scale, program and portfolio management, risk management, and pitfalls of Agile

This is a great course for project managers to extend their knowledge on the AGILE methodology. It gives a historical overview as well as details on the different types of agile methods used currently. The video lectures were well structured, were easy to follow and each was followed by a "Summary Points" lecture to engrave the knowledge better. Every week had five lecture, each came with very good additional references (links to extend the learning) what widened the perspective of the given topic. The course included case studies to prove how AGILE works in real life situations, what was a great addition. There were some knowledge check questions after every lecture, those were not so difficult to answer (may be a point for improvement). All in all, it was a great learning experience, I can recommend this course to everyone who is interested in the topic!

Easy to follow and comprehend. Good structure of the course, as introduction to a topic and a sum-up. I would definitely recommend the course to others.

This covers some of the technical or team architecture behind scrum but it is definitely not 'Applied'. It is also effectively presented as a sales pitch for scrum without going into any depth on reasons why it can be successful with little or no mention of the disadvantages, especially when there are still a huge number of companies and teams NOT using it.

The course itself in parts does not follow a logical progression of ideas in how it is presented. The videos are presented woodenly, in many cases just reading off the slides and with many edits in the videos that disrupt the flow. Slides are also frequently constructed in ways that are not compatible with the presentation format used and constructed in ways that have been warned against for over a very long time.

You would get better knowledge and understanding reading a good book on the subject.

I am not from a computer science background and hence Agile and Scrum are very new to me. Took this course to understand the basics of Scrum as I work in an organization that uses Scrum for development projects. Found it really helpful. It covers the basics and I could complete the entire course in roughly 3 days by dedicating nearly 7 hours every day. I took the audit course and did not verify for the certificate. As it was an Audit course, the final exam was not timed and no score was provided. I wish they had at least provided a score for me to know where I stand. That would be helpful. Other than that, I recommend the course.

An excellent introduction to the Agile framework and it's most known application, Scrum. A must if you work/want to work in an engineering team.

The lessions are quick, direct to the point and with very interesting examples from various areas, including the instructor's personal experience, which clearly helps with the illustration of the concepts. I've recommended this series of courses to several business and engineering students, I advise you to do the same!

This course is very helpful to anyone who has working knowledge or exposure to Agile and who wish to get better understanding. There is plenty of additional reading material to emphasis and reinforce all the concepts discussed in the course.

This is course I'll be returning from time to time to refresh my knowledge.

I got a general understanding of agile methods, changing my project management approach which was traditional and slow. Now, I can understand that many scrum teams with a product owner and scrum manager can produce many things at the same time, to ultimately have an iterative product.

Thanks.

I really loved this course and I am more eager to complete them all to gain a complete program . John the lecturer is really good and he makes the subject fun and has a good method in learning away. Altough, I feel that the quiz sessions should not have unlimited tries but limited.

one of the amazing courses I’ve had, I like the way of moving me from traditional management to fast management. I have a construction background and I would like to add some example of applying Agile in Construction Management.

Thank you and I’m going to start the next course.

Simple to follow and with real life examples, it didn't feel like a burden to get through the weekly lessons. This course gave me a better understanding why agile is fast becoming the methodology of choice especially in the world of IT and Management Consulting.

Straightforward AGILE beginners training, easy to follow and comprehend and makes a high-level comparison on most notable frameworks in use. I would say this is a brief introduction to AGILE that must be followed by more detailed training sessions.

The course conveyed the essentials of the topic as best as can be done. It felt a bit too condensed at times - more slides could be added and the material could be expanded/elaborated a little more.

Overall, a good foundation course.

Fantastic course! It really gave me a good insight into how Scrum works in Agile, and the different variations of Agile that are used.

Suffice to say, I feel very well prepared to engage in Agile projects using Scrum already!

The course is overall well done. A strong intro to Agile concepts. I learned a lot in a short time. Feedback: a lot of typos in the documentation. Not mission-critical, but noticeable.

Thanks!

It took me four weeks to finish the course. It was a bit difficult for me as English is not my native language.

The structure of the course is very good and it was fun to complete the Course.
