Introduction to Java Programming: Starting to code in Java

Universidad Carlos iii de Madrid via edX

students interested

In this introductory Java programming course, you will be introduced to powerful concepts such as functional abstraction, the object oriented programming (OOP) paradigm and Application Programming Interfaces (APIs). Examples and case studies will be provided so that you can implement simple programs on your own or collaborate with peers.

Emphasis is put on immediate feedback and on having a fun experience. Programming knowledge is not only useful to be able to program today’s devices such as computers and smartphones. It also opens the door to computational thinking, i.e. the application of computing techniques to every-day processes.

This edition is an improved version of the course released in April 2015.

by Alex D. is taking this course right now, spending 2 hours a week on it and found the course difficulty to be medium.
It teaches fundamentals of Java in a visual way. so that is more engaging but, the level of this course is that of a beginner. You can't master Java in this way. but it will give a motivation to learn more. The thing is, this course is 'trying' to develop a set mindset of a programmer. I recommend it those who like to choose Java platform for future.

This course was perfect for my needs. I was looking for an introductory Java course I could do on the go on my phone. The graded assignments require you to read, analyze and debug code snippets. From my days of learning foreign languages I prefer to take my first steps into a new language by reading.
