Overview

This Supply Chain Fundamentals course is part of the MITx MicroMasters Credential in Supply Chain Management, offered by #1 ranked SCM Master's program at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

The CTL.SC1x Supply Chain Fundamentals course provides the foundational skills for supply chain management and logistics. You will learn how to develop and apply analytic tools, approaches, and techniques used in the design and operation of logistics systems and integrated supply chains. The material is taught from a managerial perspective, with an emphasis on where and how specific tools can be used to improve the overall performance and reduce the total cost of a supply chain. We place a strong emphasis on the development and use of fundamental mathematical models to illustrate the underlying concepts involved in both intra- and inter-company logistics operations.

The main topic areas we will focus on this course are:
  • Demand Forecasting, Planning, and Management
  • Inventory Planning, Management, and Control
  • Transportation Planning, Management, and Execution
While our main objective is to develop and use models to help us analyze these situations, we will make heavy use of examples from industry to provide illustrations of the concepts in practice. This is neither a purely theoretical nor a case study course, but rather an applied analytical course that addresses real problems found in practice.

This course is part of a MicroMasters program. If you complete all courses in the MicroMasters program in 2018, GE will guarantee you an interview in Boston for an internship or full-time role. Open to Massachusetts residents only.

This course was rigorous and challenging. I spent as many as 10 hours on average to learn the concepts and do the quizzes on a weekly basis. The quality was high (up to my expectation of a MIT course) . You should have Excel skill before taking this course, so I recommend Data Analysis to the Max() , an edX course taught by DelfX.

Saptomo completed this course, spending 5 hours a week on it and found the course difficulty to be medium.
As expected from MIT-level of course: it's interesting, challenging, engaging, and for me personally quite enlightening.

This course is second part of 5 courses in supply chain management micromasters program. I was interested in learning about supply chain (purely personal interest, my work touch this topic but not directly) and stumbled upon this course, took it, and man-oh-man...I just couldn't stop learning. Now I'm planning to take the rest of the courses.

Average time/effort per week should be around 8-10 hours, but I tried to squeeze everything into just 5 hour…

This is a great start to studying SCM.

I have no pre-knowledge in supply chain management, so the course is hard for me, but Is is really well organized that makes me challenge.
