Overview

Understanding the difference between writing for print versus writing for the web starts with learning about how readers behave differently online. This course brings to light how to accommodate the needs of online readers through web design, writing style, structure and search engine optimisation.

Find out how content can impact the reader's experience, as well as how the reader's experience can impact the way they interpret online content.

What will I learn?

Techniques for writing for your online readers, such as:

  • what to consider before you start writing
  • characteristics of good online content
  • how to write for your audience
  • how to maintain your content

More specifically you will learn:

  • how to structure a web page
  • considerations for search engines and accessibility requirements
  • making your content scannable
  • using keywords, headings, lists and links
  • matching your company’s tone of voice
  • creating a content strategy and style guide
  • and many other things!

At the end of the course you will be able to write more concisely, ensuring you provide the right message to the reader at the right time.

This course requires approximately 2 - 4 hours of study per week, but can vary depending on the student. This includes watching videos, and taking quizzes and assessments.

If you pass this course you'll receive a Certificate of Achievement. While this certificate isn't a formal qualification or credit, you can use it to demonstrate your interest in learning about this area to potential employers or educational institutions.

A great course that will even help intermediate to advanced designers even though I listed it as a beginner course. Teachers you a better way to plan your website, highlighting the main factors needed to get the best result. Worth a look.

Unfortunately, this course only offered very basic, common sense information, no variety in the format of the lectures, limited visual aids and came across as amateur when compared to offerings from other platforms

I found the course to be well laid out, it flowed very well. I found the topics informative without being overly complicated. I wish she had gone more into gridding content across a site, but that is minor compared to how much I learned.

Quite interesting and motivating course. Especially weeks 2 and 3. It gives real sense to "go and write good web-content" for everybody taking this course. There are neither complicated rules no special methods but it is really a good start for web-writer
