The perfect course does not exist, but this course most certainly exceeded my expectations. Here is a short list of what I liked and what I disliked:

Positive

+ Content, the most important thing, is very good; relevant, interesting, varied and applicable.

+ Professor is great at explaining, is very active and helpful on the fora.

+ The course encourages doing rather than sit-and-listen only. This allows you to really understand, rather than just "know" how things work.

+ A very helpful community, which is really useful whenever you have some extra questions about the content, run into technical diffuculties or just want to meet people with a similar interest in Digital Marketing.

+ Counts for credits if you want to go study Marketing at the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign, which might be useful for some students.

Negative

- Some tasks require overcoming some small technological annoyances (E.g. I had trouble creating a Starbucks user account, and the RedLaser app does not do what it's supposed to do in Spain).

- Grading is mainly done by other students, which can feel unfair, and the grading system does not allow you to give detailed scores (e.g. there is no middle option between "insufficient" and "good", which prevents users from grading average assignments correctly.

- Most "View from the Quad" videos felt a bit like a waste of time, as interviewing 7-8 campus students does not give you a real insight of what the market looks like today.

The negative points are fewer, and also less important to me (content is the most important to me, closely followed by how well that content is explained /taught). Therefore I feel like 4/5 is a fair score.

I can wholeheartedly suggest this course, especially to people who are beginners at marketing (like myself) or experienced marketers wanting to get up to date with how marketing works in this new digital age.

This MOOC is well-organized, and staff is there to answer your questions and concerns. There have been so many discussions that if you need to find an answer to something, just search for your topic in discussion forums, and I am sure it will come up.

Videos are of good quality and the professor has a good style of delivery. I like that this course combines lectures with interviews with students and experts in different fields. I learned new concepts in regards to digital marketing that I didn't know before so it was time well-spent!

My roles in marketing have been more trade focused.

This class challenged the way I think about the scope and impact of Digital Technologies, and how they apply to marketing. The lectures and assignments were interesting, however a bit dated in some cases. My biggest disappointment came with the low level of quality of work of my peers in the class. I would say 2 out of 3 do the minimum amount of work to complete the assignments. I even had someone complain that my responses were too long on an assignment that I heavily researched and considered. I had to remind myself this is a MOOC and democratic education is great but comes with setbacks.

The assignments are designed in a way that provoke you to dig deeper into the case and bring out your thoughts and ideas to the table which is then reviewed by peers who also give great feedback. The learning community is greatly involved and this makes the learning even more fun.

This course made me see things through a broad market perspective rather than just an agency side person. Highly recommend this course for people who have a grip of the marketing industry and want to learn further.

You can believe the hype: content wise, this is an excellent course. Professor Rindfleisch is so articulate in a down-to-earth way that I'd certainly consider enrolling in other courses of his.

It's a near-perfect introduction to the four P's of marketing (product, price, placement and promotion), offering great insight into those notions with very effective examples that will stand the test of time.

The only flaw is something that doesn't depend upon the University of Illinois or this course in particular: Coursera's peer reviewing system is terrible. Why should a significant part of my final score depend from the assessment of people of who often

1) can't really understand English that well. I had to resubmit an assignment that got full marks because on the first instance, someone wrote the equivalent of "TL,DR" and gave me a low score

2) aren't serious about the process as you might be. Try to think outside the box and offer examples, and some will be too challenged by the task and give you a low score.

I'd much rather have option assignments peer-reviewed, and anything that counts for the final score reviewed at least by Coursera staff that knows what we're talking about.

Apart from that, an excellent course. You'd think you'd get a little more bang for your buck for 70 bucks, but I'm not excessively complaining.

It was also well-structured, taking advantage of different learning tools like case studies, interviews, and hands-on activities, aside from the usual video lectures and quizzes. There are some hiccups regarding the processes for the assigned projects, but on the whole I can say with confidence that this is one of the best courses on Coursera ever.

I have just completed this course as the very first step in the Digital Marketing specialization. The quality of the lectures is high, the topics are practice / real life oriented. I really love how the students are integrated into the course and that during the assignments they can (have to) try how theories work in real life.

I would say that the course really demands efforts and time from those who take it serious, but this is exactly what the whole thing is about. I look forward to the other courses in the specialization.

Overall, I was disappointed both by the course process and quality.

FYI, I finished the course, final grade 87%

- "View of the Quad" Great idea to have interviews of students but... their answers are very mundane, no interesting insights here.

- Assignments & Peer review: Most questions are based on personal opinion ("what do you feel about...", "Do you like...") are hardly subject to pertinent gradation.

When questions get more objective, putting course theory in perspective, there is no indication of correct responses prior to review. One example of a case asking for a classification (4 classes, A/B/C/D). I answered "A", explained why. Half of the peers I reviewed classified the case as "B", the other half as "C", both with explanations.

In this situation, post assignment indications would be useful to make sure we review (and get reviewed) correctly.

Anyway, soon after i discovered that assignments remain editable at any time (meaning after having read and reviewed some peers) which is a complete non sense !

Although this is an introduction to E-Marketing, I was surprised that cases are often observed under customers/users perspective, not marketers.

It is particularly visible in the last case study, "Redlaser" that feels like we are taking an user survey rather than making marketing analysis.

Quality of course:

Although interesting, the Course is not dense.

It is also not challenging and does not ask for a lot of efforts and implication.

Time is all you need to pass.

This degrades the overall certificate value.

This was a great intro into how digital is changing marketing and I would recommend it to anyone interested in marketing or business in general.

It is self-paced, which makes it very easy to fit into your schedule.

When I first began the course, without any marketing background, I found it difficult to really grasp the concepts thoroughly. I then took Marketing 101 on Coursera offered by the University of Pennsylvania and came back to finish this course. With a more general understanding of marketing under my belt, I was able to better appreciate how digital is changing the game.

The activities are not difficult or time consuming, but are good exercises to make you take a little time to consider real-world examples of what you learn about in the lessons.

As with most things in life, you get what you give. You can quickly watch the videos and take the quizzes and just as quickly forget everything. But if you take some time to think about the ideas and read the suggested readings, this course will make you much more aware of how digital is changing the game. If nothing else, you'll be a better informed consumer in the face of digital marketing.

Any company that desires to remain relevant and keep up with the pace of fierce competition out there must by now have incorporated, to a considerable extent, digital marketing to its way of doing things. Also, any marketing professional who doesn't want to be left behind must understand that digital marketing is the way forward hence acquire the skills set to remain relevant.

Lecture videos were awesome. The assignments were practical-based and at the end of every module, a thorough understanding of each concept taught is grasped. Most of all, I really love the way assignments are graded by fellow students. It's actually an unbiased way to grade one's performance. Great course overall - well done Prof. Aric Rindfleisch and coursera!

This is a great course for anyone interested in understanding how Marketing is adapting in the increasingly Digital World that we live in today. It combines the latest research both within the Marketing and Technology fields together with fundamentals and theory of Marketing as we knew it, introducing new digital concepts.

The professor and his contributory team, were extremely engaged throughout the course with the students and his experience and great teaching qualities have successfully brought this course to life through a variety of mediums: video lectures, quizzes, assessments, views from members of the digital generation, case studies and practical exercises from real cases, access to great resources like Harvard Business Review, MIT and excerpts from other eminent professors discussing how their latest research impacts Marketing.

I just completed the course and I feel richer than when I started it. The course is very well structured and provides a balance between focused and more diffused mode of thinking. The insights are very valuable for seasoned marketers like myself who are interested in learning how digital marketing will impact the traditional methods of doing things.

The course provides case studies and you actually learn by doing which is the best way to get involved with new material. Articles and references for deeper learning are from recognized institutions so your learning will be up to date.

Bravo also for the staff who is very helpful in providing answers when a problem occurs, mainly technical issues that have been solved quickly. The prof is also very close to the students and I liked his way of lecturing; all this makes learning a great learning experience.

I appreciate the projects and the quizzes and really like how the course tracks the objectives I have completed so far. The projects are peer reviewed, which is nice because you get the opportunity to compare what you learned with your fellow classmates.

I liked the structure of the course. It's a good mix of short videos, suggested readings, case studies, projects and quizzes. I feel like having the various components to the content helps you to really understand the objectives and keeps you focused on the learning so you don't get bored with just watching someone talk the whole time. They even do interviews on the quad to break to give real life student perspectives on the topics discussed.

I would recommend this course to anyone.

Professor Aric and his team did an outstanding job in putting together a big picture of marketing in the new world, the digital world. I've learned many new things in the class. The materials are fresh, highly interactive, interesting, and relevant. There are many examples that illustrate the concepts.

Prior to taking the class, I was aware of the change in the digital world but mostly in terms of promotion aspect (social media, etc). After the course I can see the new landscape really changes all the marketing mix, from Product to Price, to Promotion and Place.

The art of marketing has been in existence since the day humans started exchanging goods and services. However, the techniques constantly changed over time with the advent of new technologies. In the 21st century, Internet, powered by the Social Media, and the revolutionary 3D printing; disruptive technologie,s, are making waves and flattening the current way and methods of running a business. This course introduces students to these modern tools and how to use them for Marketing, within the proven framework of 4Ps. I would recommend it to anyone who is interested in understanding the nuances of digital marketing and subsequently use it, either in formulating marketing strategies or designing a marketing campaign. When I watched the introduction of this course my first thought was "ok, another general view course that won't teach me anything I don't know" but then I started to go through the first lesson, and then the second one… and after a while I have found myself really involved in the course. I have to tell you the truth… now that I finished it I am very sorry, I wish there was a second part of it. Since I am not English mother tongue it has been harder for me but I wrote down basic concepts and now I have a book full of great suggestions and issues for my job in marketing. I will go deeper with other courses in Social networks and 3D Printers but I am really sorry that Professor Aric won't be there teaching. I suggest this course all the way! 5 full points. Cheers! Great course, especially for those without any marketing education and/or experience. The video lessons were clear and visually appealing. The exercises were also fun but made me think about applying the lessons as well. The topics themselves were interesting, and even though I do not plan to have a career in marketing, I feel the information provided has made me a much smarter and engaged consumer. My only complaint is the peer grade. I understand that this is the quickest way to grade the high volume of assignments, but many peer graders can be extremely biased in their grading and/or provide little to no feedback about their reasoning for giving a score. I suggest creating an incentive for graders who get many "very helpful" ratings on their comments to score more assignments.

I would highly recommend this course for those interested in a Digital Marketing. This is my first course completed through Coursera. The quality of the content and delivery is very high. The course is relevant and interesting. The structure of the course designed in a way that ensure you go through all the readings, video lectures, quizzes, and assignments in order to complete it. I have even enjoyed rating other students' assignments. I find this activity very educational since you get access to other students thoughts and ideas. It let you think again on the questions of the assignment, read additional resources, and even evaluate your own work.

I look forward to proceed with the next course of the Digital Marketing Specialization.

I’d think Prof Aric Rindfleisch is set to be a very successful MOOC instructor although he mentioned this is his first MOOC course.

His communication style is very engaging to audience: authentic, enthusiastic, fun and thought provoking. His speaking is at appropriate speed and easily understandable for non native English speakers. His overall behavior is respectable yet very inducing to listeners. I’d just wish he’ll be back for many more courses.

As for the course itself, it’s arguably not a very long one, but firstly its content is quite succinct and eye-opening. And secondly if we’d follow the Prof’s instruction to read all recommended materials, then we’ll have a solid understanding of the subject.

I have really enjoyed taking this course, and I have found the information very interesting. I am already very keen to learn more about the different aspects of digital marketing in the specialization. Doing this course has inspired me to apply for a masters in Digital Marketing, and I have been successfully selected to join the program. I think there should be another option in the peer assessments, as they jump from insufficient to good. I have found some assignments just met the satisfactory level, and so I felt I would too harsh in marking them down as insufficient, but I was also being too generous in saying their answers were good. Other than this I was very pleased with it. Thank you for offering this course.

Before "Digital Marketing" offered by Aric Rindfleisch, I was totally in love with course of Dan Ariely and when giving advice to my friends about starting education on Coursera, I named Dan's course.

But now, I'm mentioning also "Digital Marketing" as a great example of excellent online course with an incredible balance of modern(!) practical cases, theory and awesome developed submissions\home tasks.

I want to thank Aric and his wonderful team! I recommend this course to anyone, whose level of english is not lower than intermediate and who has a basic knowledge in marketing.

This was great. I work in food photography and with creative and marketing directors, but never had a formal marketing education. This class does well at introducing traditional marketing theories, then busts them by explaining how the current digital landscape is altering much of what was true traditionally.

I now have a better understanding of what my clients are facing, and a great foundation for future marketing classes and to apply to new projects for clients.

The subject matter was great, but the organization of the class and the speed at which the instructors spoke was perfect and easy to understand.

I took this course for free because I am interested in applying for an online Masters degree and wanted to get a taste of what an online course would be like. I enjoyed this course very much. The material was all new to me but Professor Rindfleisch presented everything in a very organized way during his video lectures. The quizzes and peer exercises were all very relevant to the lesson material. I have one suggestion regarding the quizzes - It would be helpful to show the student the correct answer choice (instead of just a red X), when a question is answered incorrectly. Overall, very pleasant experience with my first online course.

I have studied both in Puerto Rico and the US, and unfortunately, I have not found in Puerto Rico this level of education. It is wonderful that now, in Puerto Rico and other parts of the world, we can have access now to such quality education. Let me explain just how great this course is. I have a bachelor's degree, two graduate degrees including an MBA, multiple certificates, and have attended hundreds of workplace training events. If I say I got addicted to the course would not be enough. Prof. Aric calm, poised, easy paced voice helped us to understand the concept of 4 Ps as applied to Digital Marketing very well. Great course! Information provided is concise and to the point, numerous real world examples are used which helps students in understanding the theory. The course leader has very engaging voice (which helps, as I usually find it hard to focus on video lectures) and every phrase carries important information, not a minute wasted. I totally recommend!

This is a great course, I would strongly advise anyone with an interest in marketing to take it. I think it's best if you have some background in marketing (either working in marketing or studied marketing). I have an MBA from the late 90's, so this was a great refresher course that walks through the 4 P's and provides updates on how they have changed given the rise of digital tools. It was not overly rigorous, but did require ~4 weeks of engagement with others via assignments. I recommend this course!
