Resources Required- need to setup CentOS. I felt that it is not essentially required. All the tools can be easily setup on any linux flavour (I used Ubuntu). Most of the tools can be easily downloaded from the Ubuntu AppStore itself.

Material- "Disorganized", I must say. I have never seen a course that has been so badly organized. Nothing goes in flow. You should be a seasoned bioinformatician to figure out the flow on your own in terms of what output file is the input file of the other tool. Also, you must be aware of basics of Next Generation Sequencing pipeline.

Mentor- Sorry to say but the mentor is mundane. It sounds like she is not sure about what she is teaching at times! More sadly, she cannot connect to us which is really important when we are taking an online course.

Assignments- fairly easy.

I wish this course should be restructured with a better tutor.

This is part of the Genomic Data Science specialization program that Johns Hopkins University is offering. So far I have taken 5 of the 8 courses, and I consider Command Line Tools to be the worst of the lot. To complete homework assignments you need to download and configure a Centos6 environment using VMBox (be sure you have 64-bit capability). Aside from very poor instructions on this, part of this requires you to use a bit torrent downloader, and you are left to your own devices to figure out what bit torrent software might be safe to use. In fact, you are pretty much left to your own resources, and your fellow students, for everything because there was never any active support from staff. Course instruction was uninteresting, tedious, and, like I mentioned, uninvolved. Avoid it.

I covers the content you would hope for in a course on analysis of genomics data using command line tool, and for that, I give it two stars. However, the assessments often have inadequate instructions, and teaching is rather bare-bones. I wish there was an equivalent course out there that was taught better.

Robert Grutza partially completed this course, spending 2 hours a week on it and found the course difficulty to be medium.
I thought the course was very clear in instructions and as a tutorial for the command line. Don't know how it could have been clearer in its instruction.

This course was well structured, I have benefited a lot from it. Not intimidated by writing my own commands in Ubuntu any more.

No question the worst class I've taken so far on coursera. I've had to google many times due to the bad explanations instructor gave.
