EdX Lists 13 Upcoming Online Masters Degree Program
Master’s in Accounting, Computer Science, Project Management, and more.
A frequent commenter on Class Central’s MOOC Report alerted us to a new page that edX added to their website. The ‘Masters’ page on edX lists thirteen upcoming master’s degree programs and one Online Master of Science in Analytics Degree from Georgia Tech. Here are the degrees listed in no particular order:
- Master’s in Accounting
- Master’s in Business Administration
- Master’s in Business Intelligence
- Master’s in Computer Science
- Master’s in Cybersecurity
- Master’s in Data Science
- Master’s in Electrical Engineering
- Master’s in Higher Education Administration
- Master’s in Information Systems
- Master’s in Nutritional Sciences
- Master’s in Project Management
- Master’s in Psychology
- Master’s in Supply Chain
Beyond this list of names, not much information is available. The pages for these individual degrees consists of no details and a signup form to learn more.
If I had to guess, the Master’s in Supply Chain might be from MIT and the Master’s in Electrical Engineering might be from The University of Colorado, Boulder. It may also be the case that edX is testing out the popularity of each of the different degree programs by creating these landing pages.
Online Degrees are the new hot thing in MOOCs and a number of recent announcements have been made in that regard. I called this phenomenon, The Second Wave of MOOC Hype.
Most recently, we saw the launch of the first Ivy League MOOC-based online degrees on Coursera. Penn’s Master of Computer and Information Technology (MCIT) is a graduate degree for students without a computer science background, though you still need to have a bachelor’s degree of some sort to be accepted into the program.

Do you know what is the cost of an online course for 3 – credits only $ 10 . But the price of the University does everything expensive. I cannot say anything about it . But if Universities go like this , nobody will go to college and USA will bankrupt. Did you know that . ?

These MOOCs are expensive for international people, paying in (10,000 to 25,000) dollars and that to for online degree programs, are you crazy!!
You should price it as per person’s
nationality….kindly do not make money in the name of education.
Secondly there is doubt regarding the regional recognition for eg. in INDIA , UGC is apex body for giving recognition to Universities and these online programs pose big question mark where accreditation is required.
MOOCs started with good intentions like providing quality education to every nook and corner of the world but loosing it tracks. You do courses and add it to your resume just.
Here investment in terms of cost and time is not justified.

I am so struggling to find an online masters degree in psychology/counselling and my search has been going on for almost forever.
A few that I have found are extremely expensive and almost $25K to $30K
Any ideas would be welcome
