Introduction to Java Programming: Starting to code in Java

Written a year ago
This course was perfect for my needs. I was looking for an introductory Java course I could do on the go on my phone. The graded assignments require you to read, analyze and debug code snippets. From my days of learning foreign languages I prefer to take my first steps into a new language by reading.

Science & Cooking: From Haute Cuisine to Soft Matter Science (part 1)

Written 10 months ago
I love this course! I'm a pretty bad cook and took it for inspiration in learning to cook but I also found myself interested in relearning some basic chemistry that faded from my memory long ago. I was so excited to watch every video and even do the homework. The labs were pretty fun although I never really liked lab work very much. The only bad thing is I broke a crystal glass in an experiment that I really liked since it was Czech.

Precalculus

Written 9 months ago
I am grateful to ASU and edx for letting me try out the ALEKS program for free. However, I thought ALEKS was a complete waste of time. Since I haven't had trig and precal in decades, I really needed to review, especially the trig topics. In around five hours or so I went through 50 topics of the same basic algebra (mainly Algebra I) over and over with tiny variations. Most of that time was spent either entering answers into ALEKS or doing second-grade arithmetic. After learning almost nothing in five hours, I realized I could have spent 30 minutes just reading a math book.

Calculus: Single Variable Part 1 - Functions

Written 6 months ago
I took this course to gain another perspective on single-variable calculus and it did not disappoint. I still find Taylor series mysterious but my understanding has improved thanks to this course.

Python for Data Science

Written 4 months ago
This course gave clear instructions on how to get started in making data science projects with Python and Jupyter Notebooks. Unlike some other courses, the walkthroughs were prepared as Jupyter Notebooks which saved me from having to stop the videos every two seconds to type out notes. Following the instructions made it easy to prepare the two projects.
