Nutrition and Health: Macronutrients and Overnutrition

Written 4 years ago
Sander Kersten really knows his stuff. His English is not perfect, but he is clear. And he has a quirky sense of humour. I particularly like that he presents a very balanced view of controversial subjects. This is a very good course for anybody wanting basics in nutrition science and some clarity around all the conflicting information about nutrition. Also, both he and the TAs are far more active in the discussion forum than I've seen in any course so far (and I've taken or dabbled in a few), except perhaps Understanding the Brain from the U of Chicago, which also was very good. I like, too, that several weeks are opened at once, and it's possible to work ahead. I'm close to done with this course and thoroughly enjoying it.

Child Nutrition and Cooking

Easy to do, and it was nice to be able to spend as much or as little time on it as I wanted. I could leave it for weeks at a time when I was more involved in other MOOCs. Found it entertaining at times and annoying at other times -- a bit on the flaky side for me.

Diabetes - a Global Challenge

Written 4 years ago
This is not a beginning overview of diabetes! These are researchers presenting their work, and it is geared to the upper undergrad or grad level student. Nevertheless, if you can slog through all the science, it is very interesting, and the forum discussions certainly were lively and informative. The quizzes were very easy as most were multiple choice with three answers, and you got three tries on them (thus I made it through the course ). The peer assessment was disappointing, as most students grading their peers did not really know what to look for.
