I took this course after reading about it in the New York Times. It was my first online course, or "MOOC," and it was most enjoyable.
While based in science and research, the presentation, mostly by Barbara Oakley, is accessible and entertaining. Using a presentation including many of the learning techniques of visual cues and metaphor suggested as good means of grasping material, what they are getting at eventually becomes clear. For example, the first thing that the course focuses upon, "chunking," a method by which you understand bits and pieces of any learning project, becomes much more effective when you walk away from a lesson, and attempt to "recall" the material in a different setting, preferably reciting the material to another.
The course follows its own advice with frequent short quizzes and tests, to reinforce what has been learned and to expose holes in understanding. It would have been helpful had the presenters include links at the conclusion of tests to go back to the study materials when an error had been made.
I strongly recommend the course.
