The Bible's Prehistory, Purpose, and Political Future

Written 2 years ago
Taking the course broadened my vision for how to deal with the Biblical material, freed me from slavish adherence to and rebellion against the text, and got me to think about a lot of things.

I wouldn't recommend this course to people wanting to verify what they thought they learned in Sunday school, or the reasons why they have thrown it all away. It is for people who are sincere believers, sincere doubters or confirmed skeptics.

One finds ways to accept and believe, and ways to doubt and understand.

The instructor's manner of dealing with his material, his students, and the persons whom he interviews are all beneficial to those who take the course.

For people heading off to university to take a liberal arts degree, it provides a good overview if any kind of course on the Hebrew Bible or the Old Testament will be part of the curriculum. For people reluctantly going to a Bible college or a more conservative religious school, it gives one believer's way of navigating through the literature without having to take all things literally.
