Exploring Neurodiversity in the Workplace

Nottingham Trent University via FutureLearn

Overview

Understand neurodiversity and champion neuroinclusion

Around 15-20% of the global population identifies as being neurodivergent. They are three times more likely to be unemployed than people with physical or visible disabilities, and six times more likely than people without disabilities.

On this three-week course from Nottingham Business School, you’ll learn what it means to be neurodivergent. Approaching the issue from an HR and business perspective, you’ll learn how championing neurodiversity could make your workplace more productive, equal, and neuro-inclusive.

Learn how harnessing neurodivergence could benefit your organisation

Neurodivergent people have many unique skills: they see and experience things differently, can offer new perspectives and ideas, as well as being able to empathise with the experience of sometimes marginalised audiences.

After an introduction to the key concepts and terminology of neurodiversity, you’ll begin exploring ways of harnessing neurodivergence for the benefit of your organisation.

Investigating real-world case studies and interviews with neurodivergent employees, you’ll learn about the unique strengths that come with ADHD, dyslexia, autism, and more.

Discover ways of supporting and championing your neurodivergent colleagues

Once you’ve understood the benefits of promoting neurodiversity, you’ll consider ways of supporting and championing your neurodivergent colleagues.

You’ll discover what it means to make reasonable adjustments and how you can eradicate discrimination in your hiring and development processes.

By the end of the course, you’ll have the tools you need to effectively foster neuroinclusion at work.

This course is designed for anyone wanting to know more about neurodiversity in the workplace, and what you can do to support your neurodivergent colleagues.

The course will be particularly useful for professionals in HR, leadership, or management roles.
