There are now a number of non-education-focused organizations and individuals offering MOOCs on the major platforms.

The World Bank, PwC, and Fundação Lemann offer MOOCs on Coursera. Microsoft, the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants, and the Inter-American Development Bank all offer MOOCs on edX. Google offers an Android Basics Nanodegree on Udacity. Best-selling author James Patterson offers a writing MOOC on MasterClass.

A number of non-educational organizations have also launched their own online course platforms. The New York Times launched The School of The New York Times and offers courses on topics like audience development. Most courses are on-demand and prices start at $95.

The Economist, meanwhile, has launched Learning.ly, and offers business-related courses. All courses are on-demand, and prices start at $19.

The Museum of Modern Art in New York offers on-demand courses, and prices range from $99 to $139.

Art broker Sotheby’s has launched Sotheby’s Institute of Art. Its online courses start at set dates and cost around $1,500 (much more expensive than your average MOOC certificate, but half the price of an in-person course at a private nonprofit university).

The American Museum of Natural History offers online courses for $520, and their courses start at set dates and even grant academic credit (for an additional fee).

There have also been a number of interesting partnerships between universities and non-educational organizations in the past few years. Online for-profit Ashford University partnered with Forbes Media and renamed its business college as the Forbes School of Business. The university will pay Forbes at least $45 million over twelve years for its brand and other services.

Wired Magazine partnered with the University of Southern California to create an online master’s degree in Integrated Design, Business, and Technology. The program is slated to launch in 2017.

Finally, Columbia University partnered with consulting firm Deloitte to launch the Global Capital Trends MOOC on Canvas.
