Welcome to Cloud Computing Basics (Cloud 101). Over the next few weeks, we will discuss the basics of Cloud computing: what it is, what it supports, and how it is delivered. We will delve into storage services, Cloud economics, levels of managed infrastructure, and Azure services. We will also explore different deployment models of Cloud computing, as well as several hosting scenarios. Last but not least, we will compare some of the cloud platforms and discuss the future of cloud computing.

Syllabus

What is the "Cloud"?

In this module, we'll discuss what the Cloud is, what it supports, and how it is delivered. We'll also explore computing as a utility, storage services, and Cloud economics, as well as distributed computing, managed infrastructure, and Azure services.

Levels of Managed Service

In this module, we will explore the levels of managed service including Infrastructure as a Service, Platform as a Service, Software as a Service, and Function as a Service.

Deployment Models

In this module, we'll discuss different deployment models of Cloud computing. We'll explore private and public deployment models, hybrid cloud, HPC cloud, and big data cloud.

Hosting Scenarios

In this module, we'll take a look at different hosting scenarios including bare-metal computing, VMs, Docker, Kubernetes, on-premises computing, and Cloud computing. We will also discuss best practices and use-cases for cloud computing.

Comparing Cloud Platforms

In this module, we will compare some of the cloud platforms. We'll discuss Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud Platform, IBM Cloud, and SalesForce.

The Future of Cloud Computing

In this module, we'll discuss the future of cloud computing. We will explore serverless computing, distributed and decentralized applications, machine learning and AI, and Azure Internet of Things.

For beginners,it is really the most suitable one and most of the class is explained and a normal,typical slides which is not the best suit for new learners and it is not attractive.Most of the time,you can read those slides and can skip the videos.You can able to answer assignments too.....

This course was very confusing and difficult to follow. The instructor only read off the slides, which were basically walls of text, and he would often go off tangent and talk about things that weren't on the slides. He wouldn't say when he went off…

This course was very confusing and difficult to follow. The instructor only read off the slides, which were basically walls of text, and he would often go off tangent and talk about things that weren't on the slides. He wouldn't say when he went off tangent so it was difficult to know where he left off. He also didn't make any annotations, so I really didn't know where to look at when he started talking off-topic.
Besides slide-reading, almost no other form of education was involved. There were a few write-ups, but most of them were ungrammatical and hard to understand. I found myself learning more from a resource which they linked (IBM Cloud's YouTube page) than their actual course. The Multiple Choice Questions were too easy, with questions like "What shouldn't a cloud system do" and options like "Be vulnerable to cyberattacks".
Overall, the course was a huge waste of time as you really don't learn much. I suggest you watch IBM Cloud's videos, or any other cloud computing introduction instead.

As the title of this course indicates, this is a truly basic course that briefly summarizes some of the concepts in cloud computing without diving into any technical detail.

However, two major factors make me quite disappointed in this course.

One, the instructor just read through the slides line by line, unfortunately, this often leads to a boring experience at least for me.

Two, since this course has almost nothing in technical details, I feel like that I may learn even better to rather read Wikipedia about the high-level concepts, e.g. what are the IaaS, PaaS, SaaS?

Although it's just my personal experience, I don't recommend taking this course. If you are curious about the overview of cloud computing, Google those concepts and read on Wikipedia or blog posts might be a better option. And if you are more serious, it's better off to other courses with more depth.

It’s a paid certificate when I enrolled, but after I completed...I can’t find my certificate. Till now I see that this course gives certificate but why I did not get mine?
