How do you learn a new language? I'm not sure anybody knows the answer to that question. Doing an online course has got to be easier than trying to pick it up simply by studying a book. These courses are a good start. I know more Spanish now than I did when I started (I also find it useful to repeat the course after a few months rest). It does bother me, however, that interpreting written Spanish is quite a deal easier than translating from English. Speaking it is even harder and good luck trying to understand the Spanish when they speak. In English, if you slur words together it's a considered a sign of intellectual inferiority. Not so in Spanish, it would appear. There's a whole lot of slurring going on in Spanish speech and that makes it really hard to understand. It seems to me that a lot of the smaller Spanish words are not particularly necessary and the fact that the Spanish slur them all together machine-gun like would tend to confirm my suspicion.

Altogether a good introductory course to the study of Spanish, providing ample tools and exercises for beginning students. Some glitchy spots here and there with the technical aspects, but support is available. The big hurdle, of course, is the lack of structured conversational opportunities. I was able to gain familiarity with basic Spanish grammar and vocabulary, which gives the student a good start. But figuring a way to include speaking drills and conversation, together with helpful feedback, is still needed.

I was most impressed by the original course, but this additional course did not really provide much new, and in my opinion was a semi-review of the original course. I had hoped for more new information, in fact I had hoped and assumed that it would be "One step further", but was rather disappointed. I do hope, however, that the University will do a more advanced course for English speakers in the future.

I really enjoyed Basic Spanish 1 and I found the self-paced approach very useful. The videos are relaxed and just right in terms of content and length- easy to re-play if needed. The presenters are friendly and clear. I jumped at the chance to complete Basic Spanish 2 and I am enjoying it very much.

Many thanks!

I too hope that Spanish 3 (and Spanish 4!) will be available soon. This format would be great for other languages... once I complete the Spanish.

I've been taking Spanish classes using several different platforms. By far this is THE BEST. Being a foreign language instructor myself, I can clearly see that. A lot of work!... And they keep improving it.

Also I am planning on moving to Spain, so It's great I have this possibility to learn the Castilian Spanish rather than Latin American version which prevails in the Western Hemisphere where I am located right now.

I like this course because they use different interactive methods to teach and it is very interesting. Presentation is clear and understandable. All subjects and conversations are important and useful in everyday life. I wish they would do next level course as well.

An excellent course to improve my Spanish so I can enjoy my life in Spain more. I can talk to Spanish people in the Health Centre, the hospital, the bank, shops and restaurants. Thank you. I have recommended to friends and would love to do another course.

I am using Basic Spanish 2 as a review and reinforcment in my on going desire to master Spanish. Most on-line courses feature Spanish as used in Latin America. This course uses European Spanish with the vosotros/as forms - just what I want and need.

It is fresh, modern, has really useful content, and an easy to follow format. Each lesson uses and reinforces what has been studied previously thereby giving the student a step by step sense of accomplishment.

I have been studying Spanish on and off for a few years now and this forum provided another opportunity for me to learn and understand the written language. In that, I am appreciative of the effort it took to put these two Spanish courses together. Perhaps the next course can be a speaking course in pronunciation. I can read the language but I am yet to speak it fluently and understanding the speakers is sometimes difficult when they speak fast.

Found this course, and the first course as well, to be very helpful in my Spanish studies. Some things need to be improved however, such as a more in-depth treatment of grammar as applied to verbs and proper sentence construction. I do hope to do these courses again soon as a review and really appreciate the fact that they are available for use. Thank you again for having these courses.

I haven`t completed the course yet, but according to what I`ve seen and studied, it is really nice work. it gives useful expressions for you to start speaking as soon as possible. Grammar is explained in a very easy, understandable way. The possibility to listen to the grammar explanation in Spanish gives you an opportunity to develop your listening skills as well.

The course covers most of the day to day conversation that you will need to get you speaking and understanding Spanish. I wish I'd discovered it earlier. It's not boring as it's quite interactive and the pace of the course is just about right. I've printed out the course notes to remind me of the things I've learned, and I may do it over again.

by Jim completed this course, spending 2 hours a week on it and found the course difficulty to be medium.
Very well organized program providing a mixture of media visual and auditory, as well as a mix of methods all of which facilitated my learning and helped maintain my interest.

The course does need to develop a more even pathway as elements of the program were sometimes far too easy or depending on your view other elements were much more difficult.

I audited both Basic Spanish 1 and 2 and I was completely satisfied with them for the approach to the language , the way with which grammar and vocabulary are introduced, the exercises and the immediate possibility to check our comprehension. I hope you will go on with furthe steps of Spanish and let us improve our knowledge of the language.

I'm studying Module 2 and I'm delighted with the learning. Recently I´ve been in Patogonia and was surprised with the improvements that I got from the classes. Congratulations on planning your classes, exercises. For me to attend the classes is really a pleasure. I`m looking forward the next step further. Thank you.

I have completed Basic Spanish 1 and appreciated it very much.

Basic Spanish 2 is of the same top quality.

The course is well structured and offers the possibility to acquire vocabulary and to practice the very peculiarities of the Spanish language.

I recommend totally this course to all students wathever is their native language.

I took the Basic Spanish 1 and learned a lot and really enjoyed it, so I was very happy when they created Basic Spanish 2. (By the way, I was one of many who asked for Spanish 2.)

This class was even better than the first. I'm hoping this wonderful group of teachers creates a Spanish 3!!!

Since this course has been divided into two parts, it has greatly improved. The lessons are easy to follow and very helpful. They are just difficult enough to keep it challenging, while not being so difficult as to discourage learning. It’s a really good way to invest your time.
