Overview

Deepen your understanding of the filmmaking process.

Over six weeks, our team of award-winning filmmakers will take you through their approach to telling stories, as well as demystifying their own filmmaking specialisms - from writing and directing to cinematography, editing and composing. Each week your filmmaker host will use examples from their own work as well as the films that have influenced and inspired them.

This course will deepen your understanding of the filmmaking process and show you how to take it further – whether making your own short films, thinking about a career, or simply a deeper appreciation of the films you watch.

Whether you’re a budding filmmaker or a film fan who wants to understand more about what happens behind-the-scenes, this course from the internationally acclaimed National Film and Television School will have something for you.

This course doesn’t require any existing specialist film-making skills or equipment, though there will be extension activities if you want to enhance your learning experience.

by Carol completed this course, spending 3 hours a week on it and found the course difficulty to be medium.
Explore Filmmaking: From Script to Screen was my first MOOC. It was an excellent course with professional tutors who were very engaging. I haven't studied for a long time and the course gave me so much confidence that I now want to learn more! The weekly lessons enable you to become involved with comments and feedback from others on the course and you can work at your own pace. A certificate is available if you complete at least 50% of the course. I am waiting for mine to arrive with a sense of achievement!

FutureLearn who run the course courtesy of The National Film and Television School, are a company owned by The Open University so you can expect excellence.

I highly recommend this MOOC if you are a beginner in filmmaking, or you are a lover of films and just want to know what goes on behind the scenes to bring a story to the screen.
