Overview

Nanoscience and technology deals with the materials whose dimensions (or at least one dimension) falling in the order of 0.1 to 100 nms. The word nano is a fascinating phrase in current science owing to its vast application in versatile fields - right from Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Medicine, Engineering and Environmental Science.Research in Nanoscience and nanotechnology really got a kick start as a separate branch following the epoch making statement by the 20th century genius Physicist and the Nobel laurite Dr. Richard Feynman, although scattered researches were going on in various research labs in submicron or nanoscale materials. The invention of electron micrographs especially the scanning and transmission electron microscopes and topographical tools like atomic force microscopy and scanning tunneling microscopy really added momentum to the efforts of the scientists to see the “room at the bottom”This course is aimed at providing basic understanding of nanostructured materials, its geometry and types, its peculiar properties, their synthesis protocols, characterization tools, engineering nanostructures for device applications. The course can have the following sub sections.
