Overview

In this course, students will learn about common medical conditions that involve the heart, lungs, brain, abdominal and genital organs, how to treat these conditions, and when a condition would require evacuation. Students will also learn prevention measures to reduce the chance of developing diseases in the wilderness setting.

Syllabus

  • Basic Trauma
    • In this module, we will talk about different types of trauma, how to treat them, and how to identify and treat shock.
  • Chest, Abdomen, Head, and Extremity Trauma
    • In this module, we will talk about specific types of trauma to the chest, abdomen, head, and extremities and how to treat them.
  • Splinting
    • In this module, we will demonstrate various types of splints that can be used to treat injuries and have you practice building these splints yourself.
  • Wounds and Burns
    • In this module, we will talk about different types of wounds, burns, and blisters, demonstrate how to treat them, and have you practice these treatment methods.
