Overview

Instructor: Dr. Babu Viswanathan, Department of Mechanical Engineering, IIT Madras.

This course focuses on the nature of aircraft engines, the various components in the engine, how these engines operate and how do we do thermodynamic calculations relating to the engine. Topics covered in this course include One dimensional flows, Normal shock waves, Flow with heat addition, Flow with friction, Quasi one-dimensional flows, Oblique shock waves, Prandtl-Meyer flow, Turbojet engine, Calculations for thrust and fuel consumption, and Ramjets.
