How do these MOOCs or free online courses work?
MOOCs are designed for an online audience, teaching primarily through short (5-20 min.) pre recorded video lectures, that you watch on weekly schedule when convenient for you. They also have student discussion forums, homework/assignments, and online quizzes or exams.
Jadecompleted this course, spending 6 hours a week on it and found the course difficulty to be medium.
Very informative but take note it is time consuming watching the videos. You can pass the weekly assignments/quizzes just referring to the book that is used and the lecture slide pdfs but you will miss out on the interactive feeling of the classroom and some good thoughts and ideas. If you are planning a startup, I would recommend this course as a good guide and inspiration.

The content of this course might appear rather simple and basic, but the best part is that it is rather well-structured and really helps you get your thinking organized in a systematic way. A good (if somewhat surface-level), precursor to more advanced courses and reading, e.g. Business Models Generation. The course is also unique in offering 2 versions for each chunk of content: one is your typical MOOC-style short video with a talking head against the slides, and the other is a recording of a live classroom session (with the same lecturer and an audience of rather young students) that is has more Q&A going on and generally helps you immerse yourself better (while spending more time). You can mix and match the sessions to your liking, e.g. use the classroom versions for initial learning and regular versions for reviewing and reinforcing your knowledge.
