Understanding Dementia is a brilliant course! I initially enrolled to enable me to better understand my father, who suffers from vascular dementia, and to ensure that he has the best care possible. I found the course so engaging, that my motivation for study became an intrinsic interest in the subject matter of dementia itself, as well as a way to help my father. The lectures are presented in an easily understood format, with helpful summaries at the end of each one. You may choose to watch the videos and/or the transcripts, but as some of the videos are quite outstanding, and are a wonderful adjunct to the learning process, they are well worth watching!

Exercises and quizzes will test your comprehension of the material, but are not assessed. The discussions are a way to get to know other students and to test your knowledge of the course material. I found Body Central one of the most useful learning techniques. This programmme tests your knowledge of the structures and functions of the brain, and is a very easy and fun way to learn this material. I doubt whether I could have learnt this material so easily, without this wonderful interactive learning tool.

This was my first experience of online learning, which I found superior to learning in a classroom. The teachers are wonderful and are extremely supportive. In fact, I was so impressed by Understanding Dementia, that I completed the subsequent course, Negotiated Study in Understanding Dementia, which is equally impressive; both courses are great fun, as well as very informative. I highly recommend Understanding Dementia to anyone, who has an interest in the subject. If you aren't especially interested when you start, I can almost guarantee that you will develop an interest in the subject of dementia by the end of the course!

The quizzes & test as well as the discussion were great & i found the lecturers & guest exceptional & really interesting...it was better & more fun than uni i think although that was years ago.

I am not working in the area but i found myself wishing that i was after accumulating all the knowledge. This was my first venture into online courses and it was an excellent one by Unit 2 i started another online course & i was able to keep up with them both. I am now looking for more subjects in MOOC perhaps photography?! I would love to do this i dont know if its offered.

Thank you for a well organised & thorough course.

Easy to follow and understand yet lots of detail and depth. It will really help you understand what is going on in someone with dementia and greater understanding on our part makes caregiving easier and less burdensome. I highly recommend this course.

Hello, I've just completed Unit 1. Easy to follow, good clear videos. I'm not a computer brain so I messed up one of my answers. I meant to go back and change answer but clicked onto wrong spot so...but passed ok this 1st Unit, I knowing it would of been 100%

The Wicking Centre and University of Tasmania are to be congratulated for producing such a high quality, user-friendly and informative course. It featured explanations that were easy to understand, highlighted with interactive activities, summary notes and video explanations by the team of professional specialists in this field. I work in allied health and am at present undertaking the Wicking course entitled "Preventing Dementia" which I am finding equally interesting and informative, both professionally and personally.

This was a great course. I thought I knew a fair bit about dementia having worked in the aged care industry but this taught me so much more. It was well presented and easy to follow. I loved that it was aimed at sufferers, carers/families, professionals and anyone with an interest in dementia. I am now doing the Preventing Dementia MOOC and online course The Arts and Dementia.
